St. Christopher’s Episcopal School Board:
Judy Van Riper: President As a “cradle Episcopalian” and Army brat, St Christopher’s is deeply imbedded in my life. Our family helped build the St Christopher’s mission church in the mid-1950s where I was confirmed by Bishop JohnHines. PCSing to Fort Polk and then Germany, we returned to Killeen and St Christopher’s in 1960. After graduating from Killeen High School and attending NTSU, I came home to Killeen to teach. Falling in love with a good, patriotic young helicopter pilot kept suitcases and boxes packed. Raising two Army brats, teaching part and full time, I received a MA in Elementary Education from WKU. The Army had us return to Fort Hood for the 4 th time in 1984. Needing to enroll our children in school, I came in July while George finished his Fort Knox tour in October. Waving in the moving truck to a house George had not seen, I was called for an interview to teach for KISD once again. Thankfully, my parents took over children, boxes, and pets! I received my Mid-Management certification from Tarleton in 1987 while teaching 1 st grade at Meadows Elementary. After spending 24 years in a variety of positions, I retired in 2008 after 13 years as principal of Pershing Park Elementary-where I had begun my teaching career in 1968! Flunking retirement, I took a long-term assistant principal’s position, and then became a student teacher supervisor for Texas A&M University. Knowing the commitment it takes to children of all ages to kept them safe, secure and loved, St. Christopher’s Episcopal School offers that to our Central Texas community. I’m blessed to be a part of this commitment.
Mary Wilson: Vice President St. Christopher's has been our church home for the past 30 years and during those many years I have been privileged to serve in many different areas. Those ranged from nursery helper to serving on the vestry and all in between. I especially treasure the time spent with our children. It so reminded me of my school teaching days! I am honored to currently serve on the St. Christopher’s School board. Being a part of the future of this school and the children it serves is indeed a blessing.
