Pre-K4​ Curriculum

The Pre-K4 program serves children who are 4 years old by September 1 and are preparing for the transition to kindergarten. This program emphasizes school readiness, social-emotional maturity, independence, and early academic skills through intentional, developmentally appropriate instruction.
Children are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their learning as they strengthen self-regulation, perseverance, and cooperative skills. A structured yet joyful classroom environment promotes confidence, curiosity, and positive peer relationships.
Instruction includes purposeful experiences in early literacy, foundational math concepts, language development, science and social studies exploration, music and movement, and fine- and gross-motor development. Teachers guide students in listening, following multi-step directions, expressing ideas clearly, and completing age-appropriate tasks to support a successful transition into kindergarten.
The Pre-K4 program partners with families to ensure each child enters the elementary years with confidence, competence, and a strong foundation for future learning.

Early LiteracyOur Pre-K4 literacy program is built on the Science of Reading and includes:

• Heggerty Pre-K Phonemic Awareness
• Early UFLI Foundations routines
• Letter–sound correspondence
• Oral language development
• Vocabulary and comprehension through rich read-alouds
• Exposure to decodable patterns through phonics-based play

Students learn to blend and segment orally, identify letters and sounds, and engage joyfully with books and storytelling.

Science & Social StudiesUsing the Little Thinkers curriculum, students participate in engaging thematic lessons that support:

• Observation and questioning
• Exploring the natural world
• Understanding community helpers
• Seasonal studies
• Beginning inquiry and experimentation

Activities combine stories, hands-on exploration, and purposeful discussion.

Fine Motor & Writing ReadinessChildren strengthen fine-motor skills through:

• Counting and number recognition

• Comparing quantities (more/less/same)
• Patterning and sequencing

• Sorting, categorizing, and simple measurement

These early skills build confidence and readiness for more formal math instruction in kindergarten.
